Day 154: Something different at trivia

Weight loss: 29 1/2 pounds

Back to the old grind…Monday started with yogurt. For lunch, I was going to eat a leftover KFC breast* [please see this comment], but Brandon was running across the street for some KFC for himself, and he grabbed me a fresh, hot one. It was quite delicious. (Which is odd, since I never particularly cared for fried chicken. Perhaps the keto regimen has made me crave fat and skin now? LOL)

I ate some almonds for a snack.

Dinner was at trivia. Instead of the usual grilled chicken salad, I ordered fajitas. I asked in advance for the rice, tortillas, and beans to be put in a to-go container. My trivia team mate, Dave, ate the tortilla chips and salsa that came with the meal.

All in all, it’s getting easier and easier to adhere to this plan. It’s pretty much a life style now.

Day 146: Catching up

Total weight loss: 29 1/2  pounds (Gained 2 in Saturday’s weigh-in)

I’ve been remiss in keeping up my blog for the past 2 1/2 weeks or so because life became more complicated, and more depressing.

My father passed away 11 days ago. He was in the late stages of dementia from Alzheimer’s and it was a tough thing to watch. With all the nursing home visits, complicated by my having an upper respiratory infection, plus working a day job, running my web business, and trying to finish up renovating a house to sell, this blog just didn’t make it to my list of essential things to do.

However, I have been keeping to the program throughout. I’ll admit, I was tempted to have some emotional eating binges, but I really only ate carbs the day of the funeral, when I honestly didn’t care whether I ate the bun on a Big Mac, or not!

The day of my dad’s burial, my husband and I left town for an improptu trip to my dad’s house “up north” on Lake Huron. I stayed on the keto program the entire time, bu I did eat an ice cream sundae on a lark on the trip back home 3 days later.

I skipped one weigh-in (the day of the burial), and I think I did eat carbs that morning and during the drive up north, now that I think about it. However, I am pretty proud (and surprised) at how ingrained the keto habit is now. The next weigh day revealed a 2 pound weight gain, but I am still losing size. In fact, I got behind on doing laundry and had nothing to wear a few days ago, so I pulled out one pair of jeans I’ve been waiting to try to fit into, and voila!, they fit!

So, I will get back into the blogging habit now. However, I don’t really record my calories/carbs in myfitnesspal.com much since I can pretty much do this carb calculating by heart now.

Back to recording:

Yesterday was Sunday. I made some eggs with cheese and onion for breakfast. I had about 6 pieces of baked bacon with that.

Lunch was Pizza Hut – the topping from a pan pizza with cheese, sausage, onion, and jalapeno. I had two trips to the salad bar: romaine lettuce, onion, cheese, creamy Italian, and a couple of sunflower seeds on top.

I wasn’t hungry for dinner, due to the late and large lunch, so I had some almonds for a snack, and then Rick and I made some chocolate mousse. Haven’t had that in quite a while.

That’s it for Sunday. It feels good to be back on habit, and great to know that I can keep on the keto plan through good times and bad. I really hope and pray that this is a lifelong habit. I believe after the past 2 1/2 emotionally draining weeks, that the habit is ingrained and I’ll do okay.

Day 123: Another good weigh-in

Today’s weight loss: 2.5 pounds   Total weight loss: 26

Well, one more pound and I’m back where I was a few weeks ago. That part is frustrating, but going in the right direction again is satisfying.

Yesterday was Friday, and I went off my plan to NOT skip breakfast. I just wasn’t hungry, I still felt sick, and had a bad cough, and I was pretty busy at work.

At noon, I ate 2 pieces of leftover shawarma pizza. At around 4, I ate some almonds because we planned to work on the house for awhile right after work, so I knew I’d be eating a late dinner.

We did about an hour of work, but I didn’t accomplish much, because I still felt tired and under the weather. When we got home, I ate another piece of pizza toppings, then went out to sit under the gazebo with my man. I had a glass of vodka and Diet Coke.

For my late dinner, I had the final piece of leftover pizza, followed by some chocolate mousse

Day 116: Small meals and not much appetite

Today’s weight loss: 3 pounds   Total weight loss: 23.5

Well, it appears I’m going in the right direction again. I’m not as excited about a 3 pound loss when it’s the same pounds the second time around. I won’t look a gift horse in the mouth. If I lose another 4 pounds, I’ll be at my lowest weight since starting keto. Hope next week’s numbers are just as good.

Some Fridays I work at home. Other Fridays I only have a few hours to work. Yesterday was a short day.

I had yogurt for breakfast, but didn’t have any lunch. I got off work at 1:15 and headed over to the nursing home to see my dad. I’m trying to switch up when I go to visit in hopes that he’ll be awake and aware.

He was. I buzzed his hair with an electric clipper and he fell asleep. LOL

We headed home, and I made a lunch of some Mama Lupe’s tortillas filled with Monday’s leftover chicken. I topped it with grated cheese and sour cream. It was dull.

I wasn’t hungry for dinner, so I drank a couple of glasses of water and had some cheese.

Later, ate a handful of almonds, then had a container of one of the delicious new low carb yogurt flavors from Kroger: banana cream pie. It was really good and hit the spot.

Day 113: Jimmy John’s Lulu unwich and chicken shawarma pizza

Total weight loss: 20 pounds. Next weigh-in: Saturday, May 5th

I started my Tuesday with yogurt (am I a creature of habit, or what?)

For lunch, I opened up my “half” of leftover salad and discovered that I had only put chicken into the container. I think I started to halve the salad and we were asked a trivia question which distracted me. It is what I’m there for, after all.

So, I tried eating some almonds, but I was disappointed that I didn’t have a very exciting lunch, so I asked Brandon to pick me up a Jimmy John’s Unwich while he was getting his own. I’m a staunch liberal, as well as an aware consumer, and I don’t frequent Jimmy John’s on principle. He is a conservative who has denigrated my favorite president and he supports everything I dislike politically.

So, that being said, I had an Unwich. Sigh. I’m SORRY, my liberal friends. I won’t do it again. I promise.

After work, Rick and I went to work on the house. On the way, we noticed that our local restaurant was serving chicken shawarma pizza. That just sounds yummy. On that way home, I stopped in to pick one up, and ordered some fried kibbies for Rick. I ate 2 bites. Sometimes that’s all it takes to get the cravings under control.

Of course, while there, I tried to interest the owner’s nephew in a website. I left some company literature, so we’ll see.

The pizza was just scrumptious! I ate only the top with some extra garlic sauce. It was like eating shawarma imbedded in cheese. yum yum yum. Here are some before and after shots. LOL

I have to say, I will be getting the shawarma pizza again. And my dog loved the crusts! Rick ate some, but we had two leftover pieces for the next day’s lunch. We had low-carb mousse for dessert.

Day 108: Dinner out – back on track

Total weight loss: 24 pounds. Next weigh-in: Saturday, April 28th

I forgot to show pics of my newest Netrition order yesterday. I bought 3 different kinds of cheese chips, plus some large Parmesan cheese crisps.

The crisps were the best, but all of the items were a bit pricy. I guess if you compare the 3 portions you get from each bag to the price of 3 portions of potato chips, they come out even in price. Maybe. They are a bit crumbly, but well-packaged. There just aren’t many of them. They taste about the same as the ones I make myself in the oven, but they are thicker and crispier. They make a great base for eating crab dip or other items usually eaten on crackers or tortilla chips.

By the way, the baked cheese “chips” are TINY. They would help assuage any chip craving, though.

To get back to my progress, I had a boring, but good day. I had yogurt for breakfast, almonds for a snack, a thick and yummy baconzilla with no bun for lunch, and a salad at trivia.

Day 106: The unplanned cheat meal at my favorite restaurant

Total weight loss: 24 pounds. Next weigh-in: Saturday, April 28th

What a day! What a meal! What did I do!?

The day started as usual with a yogurt for breakfast and some leftover salad and almonds for lunch.

It was a busy day, and after work we were going over to pack up and loan our truck to Brandon and Lindsey so they can start moving up. We left work and started over, and I said we should stop somewhere for a drink and appetizer while we waited for them to get ready.

Our big mistake was stopping at my favorite restaurant: Mexican Fiesta

Here was my plan–get one margarita and eat about 6 chips and salsa

Here is the reality–ordered one margarita; however, the waitress pointed out that one was $7 and a whole liter was only $10!

Sigh.

I had nearly the entire liter, half an order of chips and salsa, 2 cheese enchiladas, and one beef taco.

And I was drunk, as well.

I guess I won’t go to my favorite restaurant unless it’s a PLANNED cheat day.

Day 105: Birthday cupcakes

Total weight loss: 24 pounds. Next weigh-in: Saturday, April 28th

Back to work on Monday morning after an early morning dental appointment. I wasn’t able to eat until noon due to a numb and sore mouth. I ate leftover broccoli hamburger Alfredo casserole. It had a lot more flavor on day two.

For a snack, I tried to eat some almonds, but it wasn’t easy, so I didn’t have many.

After work, we were supposed to go work on the house, but after receiving some bad news about my Dad’s prognosis, I just felt tired and out of it. My mouth still hurt, so I warmed up some casserole again. It was a nice comfort food, and I ate it while relaxing in front of the tv.

It was trivia night at Albert’s. I wasn’t too hungry so I ordered the low carb wings. The flavor is great, but I sure hate the texture of dark meat and skin. Rick insists that wings are white meat, but I know better.

It was Jim’s birthday celebration and–after staring at them for 15 minutes–I decided to take 2 small bites of a cupcake. That did the trick. I have no idea how many carbs. I’ll have to try to calculate later.

Back home, I had 2 squares of 70% cocoa with peanut butter.

Day 104: Pizza buffet on keto

Total weight loss: 24 pounds. Next weigh-in: Saturday, April 28th

Sunday morning, and I wasn’t hungry for breakfast. I worked on gathering 2012 business expenses into an organized binder. Yes, I can learn from last year’s tax mistakes. LOL

After bills, budgets, design jobs, and other fun paperwork, it was time to go work on the rental house. For brunch on the way, we went to Papa Elias’s Pizza Buffet.

I had a huge salad with Ranch dressing and about 5 pieces of pizza TOPPINGS. I felt really bad when they came to clear our plates and there was a pile of crusts on mine. It looked so wasteful, but a woman’s gotta do…etc. If anyone ever questions my behavior, I plan to tell them I have a flour allergy. LOL

We worked on installing doors again. What a pain.

Afterwards, we headed home. I wasn’t hungry because of the huge brunch, so I headed back to my office to list ebay items and work on  catching up on this blog.

In the evening, I decided to try the hamburger/broccoli alfredo casserole recipe Brandon tried last week from Linda’s low carb recipe site. It wasn’t too complicated, although Brandon recommended using more heavy cream and 1 1/2 times the cream cheese. I did, and it was very tasty and I ate 2 servings.

I’ll take a picture of it when I heat it up for dinner.

For dessert, I made some chocolate mousse.

Day 103: Let the weekend begin!

Total weight loss: 24 pounds. Next weigh-in: Saturday, April 28th

Saturday morning began with a small breakfast of leftovers: the pizza squasherole with some almonds. I worked at home on the budget and some web design.

For lunch, we went to Del Taco. I must admit, after my bad weigh-in, I was a little frustrated. I ordered the mucho burrito and tossed the tortilla, but I was really really tempted to buy a churro. I thought about it, but decided that eating a cheat meal after a bad weigh-in is a bad idea. I need to thoughtfully, carefully, plan a cheat meal, or even a cheat day, not do it emotionally. I did have 4 of Rick’s french fries.

We worked on installing doors at the rental house, then went to visit my dad. It was late when we arrived home, and I, of course, had nothing planned to eat. I got out 3 pieces of sliced ham, spread cream cheese on them, and topped them with onion. I rolled each into a loose sandwich and that was dinner. Oh, I had some almonds as a light accompaniment.

Dessert was 2 pieces of 70% cocoa bar with peanut butter.
