Day 151: Weigh-in…nothing to report

Today’s weight loss: 0

Total weight loss: 29 1/2 pounds

While it’s disappointing to see no progress on the scale, I keep seeing the inches coming off. After some crazy carb consumption this week, including the sad state of affairs from last night that I am about to report, zero looks GOOD. At least it’s not in the plus column. I do hope to get past the 30 mark [again] next week, tho.

I started my usual day at work with yogurt, and ate 2 beddar cheddars for lunch. I left work early because we had tons of things to do, then a wine-tasting party to attend at 6.

I knew in advance that I would be drinking wine, and, each glass being 3-4 carbs minimum meant I was basically having a cheat night, and so I did. The eating wasn’t horribly off, although I did have guac and more tortilla chips than I normally would have. The big cheat was the wine. I had 3 gazillion glasses, then switched to rum and Diet Coke, then switched back to wine. In other words, I got smashed!

So, to see no upward movement on the scale after last night’s wine carb binge, plus the evening at Hayden’s, is a good thing. Today, I get back on track!

Day 150: Successfully navigating the tempting carbs

Total weight loss: 29 1/2 pounds

Wow, yesterday had it’s ups and downs. I ate my yogurt breakfast, and had not prepared for lunch (again! you’d think I’d realize that I like to eat lunch once a day. LOL)

Rick dropped by and took me to Culver’s, where I had a butter burger with bacon, cheese, and no bun. One french fry.

After work, we went to work on the house. Brandon and Linz dropped by and were sorting through old clothes. I gained a new sweatshirt from Brandon and a pair of (size smaller!) jeans from Lindsey. I am really seeing some difference in size now.

Trivia night with the family team didn’t start until 9 at Applebee’s and wow, I was starving. Everyone ordered Margaritas…I was tempted, really tempted, but opted for water.

Then I started reading the menu. I had chicken last week, and it was pretty good. However, being hungry threw me off course and I just kept reading all these savory meals that had rice, potatoes, breading, and all sorts of side dishes that were verboten.

I finally reined in my wandering palate, and ordered the chicken fajitas. The plate arrived with rice. I ignored it, and the tortillas, and made a nice big pile of chicken, veggies, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. It was great! Who needs carbs? Not me.

Day 149: Staying on course and some looser clothing

Total weight loss: 29 1/2 pounds

Yesterday was hump day. I awoke feeling pretty bad about the unplanned carb meal from the night before. Then I put on my pants…they are looser! What is it about this illogical event that happens when I eat carbs? Afterwards, I seem to lose more pounds that week, or my clothes are looser.

Rick says my stomach inflates and stretched out my pants, then the next morning it deflates and the pants are now bigger. Thanks, honey. Except, I don’t put on the same pants on the second day. They are fresh from the laundry.  Nice try, tho!

So, off to work I went, puzzled but happy. I started the day with a low-carb yogurt. For lunch, I had a “blt” – low carb tortilla, 1/2 roma tomato, spinach leaves, and 5 pieces of overcooked bacon (just the way I like it!).

Snack: chili lime almonds

Delayed dinner…when I got home from work, I was dead tired, so I took a 15-minute nap. I’ve been a little more tired this week than usual. I think it may be depression due to my dad’s death. Anyway, I took the nap, then got up and went right to work on our company website. We’ve revamped it and have been about 90% done for months. Life, death, new clients, and home remodeling overtook the project. However, I want to do an advertising mailing, and the postcards are waiting to go out until the new site is up. Time to take the bull by the horns and get ‘er done!

I worked on it for hours. I worked through the hunger, so when I finally uploaded the site, it was about 9:30 and I wasn’t hungry at all! I decided to sit on the deck and have a celebration/relaxation drink. I had vodka on the rocks with a twist of lemon. Never had it before, and I forgot to check the carbs in the juice of one lemon. I’ll do that later today.

After about 1/2 hour, I decided I had better eat. Starvation is not good for weight loss. I found a small portion of leftover Cincinnati chili (when was it from? don’t want to know) put it on top of 1 cup of leftover spaghetti squash, topped it with onions and grated cheese and enjoyed a quick meal. Then I went back to work, checking links on the new site before bedtime.

Oh, and of course, I had 2 squares of 70% chocolate bar topped with natural peanut butter.

Day 148: Carbs, carbs, carbs

Did you ever just cave in to the pressure? I did last night.

The day started well…low-carb yogurt.

For lunch, I had just the lamb and sauce on my gyro, with 3 tiny bites of the pita bread. (There I go, dabbling in carbs, again!)

Movie at 5 pm – just the Diet Coke for me, with 6 kernels of Rick’s popcorn.

Dinner at 7 pm – I was starving! I started with a zero carb vodka and Diet Coke. We were at Hayden’s and they have a great $10 combo meal. I chose the low-carb chicken marsala, the low-carb (I thought!) broccoli alfredo, and a Caesar salad. Skipped the battered appetizers, potato choices, pasta choices, etc. All was well.

Then came the complications. Sigh.

Right around the time the meal should have showed up, the waitress said she forgot to put in our order. The restaurant offered an appetizer on the house. There were NO carb-friendly choices, so we took the tempura shrimp. When it came, I ate one, then another, and two more! Well, in a whole week of good eating, how bad could it be?

When the meals finally came, I got more bad news. The salad wasn’t there, but there was a nice portion of mashed potatoes on my plate…right next to the pasta. Pasta? Oh, the “broccoli alfredo” was actually a whole lot of pasta with about 4 sprigs of broccoli underneath. I mentioned the salad, and the waitress said to keep the potatoes and she’d grab the salad.

Why do I always get carb-filled perks? Sigh. I know, it was probably dumb to not realize that there was pasta in broccoli alfredo, but I was picturing the garlic broccoli I had at Applebee’s I guess. Anyway, I just caved. I ate it, all of it…the chicken, pasta, AND potatoes.  Oh, and the salad, too. LOL

In the end, I had an unplanned cheat meal. Let’s see what happens on the scale this week.

Day 147: Back in the blogging habit

Total weight loss: 29 1/2

Yesterday was Monday. I started my workday with a banana creme low-carb yogurt. I just didn’t feel like staying and working through my lunch (which I had planned to do), so Rick picked me up and we had coneys (no bun) at the local diner. I ate 4 of his french fries. I know, I’m getting a bit frisky with this tiny carb exposure, but they satisfied the little craving I had.

Dinner was at Monday night trivia. I had the huge and delicious grilled chicken club salad with blue cheese dressing. I was really hungry and I ate the whole thing!

I ended the day with an evening snack of two squares of 70% cocoa bar topped with peanut butter.

Day 146: Catching up

Total weight loss: 29 1/2  pounds (Gained 2 in Saturday’s weigh-in)

I’ve been remiss in keeping up my blog for the past 2 1/2 weeks or so because life became more complicated, and more depressing.

My father passed away 11 days ago. He was in the late stages of dementia from Alzheimer’s and it was a tough thing to watch. With all the nursing home visits, complicated by my having an upper respiratory infection, plus working a day job, running my web business, and trying to finish up renovating a house to sell, this blog just didn’t make it to my list of essential things to do.

However, I have been keeping to the program throughout. I’ll admit, I was tempted to have some emotional eating binges, but I really only ate carbs the day of the funeral, when I honestly didn’t care whether I ate the bun on a Big Mac, or not!

The day of my dad’s burial, my husband and I left town for an improptu trip to my dad’s house “up north” on Lake Huron. I stayed on the keto program the entire time, bu I did eat an ice cream sundae on a lark on the trip back home 3 days later.

I skipped one weigh-in (the day of the burial), and I think I did eat carbs that morning and during the drive up north, now that I think about it. However, I am pretty proud (and surprised) at how ingrained the keto habit is now. The next weigh day revealed a 2 pound weight gain, but I am still losing size. In fact, I got behind on doing laundry and had nothing to wear a few days ago, so I pulled out one pair of jeans I’ve been waiting to try to fit into, and voila!, they fit!

So, I will get back into the blogging habit now. However, I don’t really record my calories/carbs in myfitnesspal.com much since I can pretty much do this carb calculating by heart now.

Back to recording:

Yesterday was Sunday. I made some eggs with cheese and onion for breakfast. I had about 6 pieces of baked bacon with that.

Lunch was Pizza Hut – the topping from a pan pizza with cheese, sausage, onion, and jalapeno. I had two trips to the salad bar: romaine lettuce, onion, cheese, creamy Italian, and a couple of sunflower seeds on top.

I wasn’t hungry for dinner, due to the late and large lunch, so I had some almonds for a snack, and then Rick and I made some chocolate mousse. Haven’t had that in quite a while.

That’s it for Sunday. It feels good to be back on habit, and great to know that I can keep on the keto plan through good times and bad. I really hope and pray that this is a lifelong habit. I believe after the past 2 1/2 emotionally draining weeks, that the habit is ingrained and I’ll do okay.

Day 137: Nothing to report

Today was my dad’s burial, and I’m taking a break from blogging and weigh in. See you in a few days.

Day 130: I hit the 30 pound goal!

Today’s weight loss: 5.5 pounds!

Total weight loss: 31.5 pounds!!!

EUREKA!

Finally! I know it’s probably just me, but 30 pounds finally feels like I’m seeing some real progress. It’s just a numbers game in my head, but I’m pretty happy with today’s weight loss. After working hard to keep under carbs, it’s nice to see some big numbers. Knowing how it’s gone on this journey, however, I may gain a couple of pounds back next week. The up and down trending keeps plodding more downwards, though, and for that, I am thankful.

Day 124: Yummy keto-friendly BLTs

Total weight loss: 26

Saturday started slow because I still have a bad cough. However, I couldn’t let that stop me from attending the trivia finals!

Jo came by to pick me up for the semi-finals which started at 11a.m. at the Pizza House in Ann Arbor. I didn’t have time for breakfast because I stayed in bed as late as possible. Our team was actually allowed to skip the semis and go straight to the finals, but we like to get in the spirit and watch the teams compete, plus we try to answer the questions ourselves to see if we would have made it through the semis without our “pass.”

I ordered chicken quesadillas for brunch. Not strictly keto, I know, but being ill, having a good weigh in and all, I decided to throw caution to the wind. During the past week, I went over on my carbs a couple of times and the weigh-in was still good. I think its more about drinking lots of water and eating ENOUGH calories to be successful on this plan.

I didn’t have much of an appetite, so I only ate 3 slices of the 8 or so on the plate, then asked for a box. During the afternoon finals, I also had 5 tortilla chips from Brandon’s nachos. That was it for my morning and afternoon consumption. I got home around 7. (Yes, we spend an entire day in a bar on finals day, but it’s fun!) Oh, and we didn’t win.

I sat outside and regaled Rick with the story of my day. We came in to watch a movie around 9, and I decided to try baking bacon, a trick Brandon and Lindsey told me about. I preheated the oven to 425 degrees, lined a rimmed cookie pan with foil and baked for 17 minutes. The outside pieces were crispy and done, but the inside pieces were a tiny bit floppy. I HATE floppy bacon, so I nuked those pieces on a plate for 3 more minutes. Two would probably have been better; they were a bit TOO done, but still tasty.

I decided to try to make some keto-friendly BLTs. I used Mama Lupe’s low carb tortillas, mayo, bacon, a slightly diced up vine tomato, and spinach leaves (I had no lettuce on hand). They turned out very well.

Later, while watching TV, I had one square of chocolate. Unfortunately, it wasn’t in the wrapper, and I discovered it was one of Rick’s orange-flavored chocolates, and not my keto-friendly version. Oh well.

Day 123: Another good weigh-in

Today’s weight loss: 2.5 pounds   Total weight loss: 26

Well, one more pound and I’m back where I was a few weeks ago. That part is frustrating, but going in the right direction again is satisfying.

Yesterday was Friday, and I went off my plan to NOT skip breakfast. I just wasn’t hungry, I still felt sick, and had a bad cough, and I was pretty busy at work.

At noon, I ate 2 pieces of leftover shawarma pizza. At around 4, I ate some almonds because we planned to work on the house for awhile right after work, so I knew I’d be eating a late dinner.

We did about an hour of work, but I didn’t accomplish much, because I still felt tired and under the weather. When we got home, I ate another piece of pizza toppings, then went out to sit under the gazebo with my man. I had a glass of vodka and Diet Coke.

For my late dinner, I had the final piece of leftover pizza, followed by some chocolate mousse
